This exceptional vintage four piece tea and coffee service consists of a coffee jug, teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl, with associated tray.
The teapot, coffee jug, cream jug and sugar bowl have a cushion shaped form with convex fluted rounded corners, in the Art Deco style.
The plain body of each piece is ornamented with an iconic Art Deco style stepped fluted design to the upper border.
The teapot and coffee jug are fitted with plain flush hinged covers with scalloped rims; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this service.
The covers are fitted with tapering scalloped shaped carved ivory and silver topped finials.
The cream jug and sugar bowl have shaped scalloped rims.
The teapot and coffee jug are fitted with Art Deco style shaped rounded ivory handles with a plain scrolling thumbpiece.
The handle to the sugar bowl is embellished with a floral motif to the terminal of each handpiece, and the cream jug is fitted with a rounded angular handle, matching the same style as the teapot and coffee jug handles.
The coffee jug and cream jug are both fitted with a trunkated spout.
Each piece of this impressive vintage silver tea set is supported by four alantoid shaped feet, reflecting the decoration to the upper rim.
This fine four piece service sits to an associated Art Deco style tray.
The corners and shaped tray handles are ornamented with similar decoration to that exhibited on the feet and rim of the tea service pieces.
This impressive service was crafted by the Sheffield silversmiths Mappin & Webb in 1944, and the tray was made in the same style in 1954.
The underside of the teaset bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb Ltd, Sheffield & London' in addition to the registration number '827046'
