Description

This exceptional vintage tea and coffee service with associated tray have been made in the Art Deco style.

The teapot, coffee jug, cream jug and sugar bowl have a cushion shaped form onto four alantoid shaped feet.

Each piece of the service has convex fluted rounded corners.

The body of each piece is subtly ornamented with an iconic Art Deco style stepped fluted decoration to the upper border with a similar design reflected in the decoration to each foot.

The teapot and coffee jug are fitted with plain flush hinged covers with scalloped rims.

The covers are fitted with tapering scalloped shaped ivory and silver finials.

The cream jug and sugar bowl have similarly shaped scalloped rims.

The teapot and coffee jug are fitted with Art Deco style shaped ivory handles.

The coffee jug and cream jug are both fitted with a trunkated spout.

The sugar bowl has plain handles with flower motif decorated terminals.

This fine four piece service is displayed on an associated Art Deco style tray.

The corners and shaped tray handles are ornamented with similar decoration to that exhibited on the feet of the tea service pieces.

The tea and coffee service was made in 1944 and the tray made in 1954 - all by the same Sheffield silversmiths Mappin & Webb.

Condition

All the pieces of this splendid vintage Art Deco tea and coffee service are an excellent gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each piece, including the tray, are all very clear.

Part hallmarks, as expected, struck to the interior of the teapot and coffee pot covers are also very clear.
