This impressive antique sterling silver mug has a plain cylindrical form.


The body of this Victorian silver mug is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved illustrations of water-side plant life with butterflies and birds accented with a crescent moon to the sky and a sun to the horizon, all in the Aesthetic style.


The decoration to the body incorporates a bright cut engraved fan shaped vacant cartouche beneath the inscription ‘The last drop makes the cup run over’.


The rim and base of the mug is ornamented with a plain applied moulded border.


This impressive mug is fitted with a panelled angular handle embellished with further fine and impressive bright cut engraved interlacing branch designs accented with birds to both sides and a band of stylised floral ornamentation to the posterior panel.


The underside of this impressive Victorian silver mug bears the retailer’s mark ‘Goldsmiths Alliance Limited, Cornhill London’ amidst a small lozenge and above the silversmith’s centre punch mark.

Condition


This Victorian mug is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mug are all very clear.


Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.
