Description

This fine antique Victorian sterling silver cup has a plain circular bell shaped form supported by a baluster shaped knopped pedestal onto a circular domed spreading foot.

The body of this large presentation cup is embellished with two impressive bands of bright cut engraved stylised quatrefoil floral designs amidst circular motifs and incorporating tri-lobed leaf ornamentation to each incurve.

The rounded knop to the pedestal is encircled with further circular motifs.

The foot is encompassed with a band of bright cut engraved interlacing lozenge designs accented with pendant drop style ornamentation.

The underside of this large and impressive cup bears the retailer’s mark ‘R. C. Oldfield silversmith, Old Post Office Place, Liverpool’.

If required, this antique presentation cup could be supplied with a bespoke ebonised black plinth with sterling silver plaque or band, suitable for a personal engraved inscription. This service would take approximately 6 weeks, the cup can be dispatched separately prior to completion.

Date: 1888

Condition

This antique sterling silver cup is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The sterling silver cup has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup are all clear; the hallmarks have some wear due to their location and in keeping with age, but remain legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of Victorian silverware.
