Description


This fine antique George III sterling silver quart mug has a baluster shaped form onto a circular spreading foot.


The body of the mug is embellished with fine and impressive later chased grape and vine decoration incorporating a stylised leaf and scroll bordered cartouche.


The cartouche bears the engraved presentation inscription ‘Won at the Swansea Regatta, 1st July 1830, by Sir H.Vivians Yacht The Paul Pry of 23 tons beating the Peterell of 29 Tons. The Winner of the Cup the Two preceding Years, the Champion of the Bristol Channel’.


This impressive quart* mug is fitted with an impressive opposing scroll handle ornamented with a scrolling leaf decorated thumbpiece.


The spreading foot is encircled with a band of chased stylised leaf decoration.


The interior of this large Georgian mug is gilded.

Condition


This antique sterling silver quart mug is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp and the engraved inscription is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the mug are very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
