A magnificent, fine, large and impressive antique early Victorian English sterling silver salver; part of our antique salver collection Description
This antique sterling silver salver has a circular shaped form onto three bracket style feet.
The surface of the salver is embellished with a broad, flat engraved floral, acanthus leaf and opposing scroll decorated border.
The presentation inscription to the centre of the surface reads:
"Presented to
Benjamin Banks Esqr.
With a service of plate
For the Clergy Gentry Merchants & Traders of
Sligo and its vicinity
To record their high sense of the very efficient
manner he conducted the management of the
Provincial Bank in that town
for a period of nearly Five Years, and his
gentlemanly obliging & corteous deportment
April 1843"
Above this inscription is a bright cut engraved crest depicting on the stump of a tree a crane statant.
The rim of this magnificent salver is embellished with a fine and impressive scroll and shell decorated border.
The salver is supported by three cast pierced and scroll decorated bracket style feet.
Although this early Victorian salver displayes the London Assay Office hallmarks, it was made by the renowned provincial Newcastle silversmith William Ker Reid

Condition
This splendid antique sterling silver salver is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.
The flat engraved decoration is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the salver are all very clear.
