A very good antique George III English sterling silver swing-handled sweetmeat basket; part of our silverware collection

Description

This antique Georgian sterling silver sweetmeat basket has an elliptical boat shaped plain form onto an oval pierced and thread decorated foot.

The basket is ornamented with a pierced decorated border with bright cut engraved shaped leaf decoration.

The surface of the inner sides of the basket is embellished with fright cut engraved floral swag decoration.

To one side of the basket, on the outer surface is a bright cut engraved crest of a tiger's head.

Thread decoration embellishes the rim, tapering swing handle and foot of the basket.

Condition

This fine Georgian basket is a good gauge of silver, very good quality and apart from a couple of minor dings to the surface, is in excellent condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the basket are all clear apart from the maker's mark which is partially worn.

Part hallmarks of the lion passant, struck to the handle as expected, is clear.
