Description

This exceptional antique George III York sterling silver teapot has an oval tapering form.

The body of the teapot is embellished with later chased scrolling leaf and floral motifs; the ornamentation to either side of the body incorporates a scroll bordered, shaped vacant cartouche.

The upper and lower portions of the body are embellished with contemporary bands of pin struck decoration.

This exceptional antique English teapot is fitted with a flush hinged hallmarked cover embellished with further later chased decoration to the domed portion; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.

The cover retains the original silver topped, carved painted wood oval fluted finial.

The teapot is fitted with the original carved painted wood C shaped handle with a plains scrolling thumbpiece.

This Georgian silver teapot has an impressive tapering cylindrical, oil can style spout ornamented with a later chased floral motif to the underside, in addition to contemporary pin struck ornamentation to the lip.

This exceptional antique silver teapot was crafted by Hampston, John Hampston, John Prince, Robert Cattle & George Cattle I of Prince & Cattles in the provincial city York, England; locating an example of York silverware, displaying the town mark, is highly desirable and collectable.
