Description

This exceptional antique William IV sterling silver teapot has a plain rounded compressed melon shaped form.

The surface of the subtly incurved panelled body is plain and embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting quarterly in chief a mullet, the first and fourth a griffin rampant with three crescents and in the second and third between a saltire four lion rampant.

The coat of arms to this Paul Storr silver teapot is surmounted with the corresponding heraldic crest of a greyhound courant.

This fine example of antique silverware is fitted with the original hallmarked flush hinged domed cover; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of the piece.

The cover retains the exceptional original hallmarked cast sterling silver acorn and foliate finial.

The fine plain C scroll handle is ornamented with an impressive cast leaf design to the upper portion, which is incorporated into the shaped thumbpiece.

The upper socket of the handle is ornamented with further cast sterling silver leaf decoration.

The plain swan necked spout is ornamented with concave fluted ornamentation above the scalloped socket in addition to an applied leaf design to the upper portion of the lip.

The teapot is supported on four cast bracket style feet embellished with solute scrolling terminals and impressive leaf decorated sockets in junction with the body.

This exceptional example of antique teaware was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Paul Storr.
