An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver travelling clock/compass; an addition to our silver timepiece collection

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver travelling clock has a plain rectangular form.


The surface of this impressive, large antique travelling clock is embellished with engine turned decoration overlaid with the original bevelled blue glass panels, framed with plain broad sterling silver borders.


The upper plateau of the clock is fitted with a compass with a plain white enamel dial.


The compass is embellished with cardinal and intermediate marks forming a sixteen point compass rose, encircled with a chapter ring of degree marks around the outer edge.


The compass is secured with a plain domed silver plated bevel.


The upper portion of the travelling clock is fitted with a hinged angular carrying handle.


The white enamel dial of the clock is ornamented with Arabic hour numerals, encircled with a plain chapter ring with minute markers and fitted with scrolling gilt metal hands.


The face of this timepiece is visible through a circular glass 'window' with a plain applied silver border.


The hallmarked hinged door opens to reveal the original French eight-day movement.


The clock movement is fitted with an incorporated hinged winding key, featuring a shaped handle with lobed fingerpieces.


The door has a rounded thumbpiece to facilitate opening.
