Description

This exceptional antique George III sterling silver wine cooler has a campania shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot.

The upper portion of the body of this wine cooler is embellished with a broad band of chased fruiting vine decoration onto a planished background.

This fine wine cooler is further embellished with two bright cut engraved coat of arms* depicting the sixth Honourable Ordinaire, the fess with three maidens' heads couped at the shoulders crined proper above a leopard's head erased.

Below each coat of arms the family motto 'Labore Vinces' - 'By labour will you conquer'.

This wine cooler is fitted with two fine handles ornamented with a tied scrolling leaf design and impressive acanthus leaf decorated sockets.

The pedestal and circular spreading foot of this antique wine cooler are embellished with chased flower and leaf decorated borders.

The rim of this antique wine cooler is ornamented with an outcropped chased acanthus leaf decorated rim.

The wine cooler retains the original hallmarked detachable cover which is embellished with two bright cut engraved crests* depicting a leopard's head erased, ducally gorged.

This antique cooler is fitted with a Sheffield plate inner liner, as would be expected.

This impressive Georgian wine cooler is an exceptional example of its type.

Condition

This antique silver wine cooler is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional, presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the wine cooler and part hallmarks struck to the cover are clear, however the maker's mark is rubbed and a portion of the lion passant is rubbed but legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Georgian silverware.
