This fine and magnificent large antique George IV sterling silver wine ewer/flagon has been made by the renowned and very collectable London silversmith William Batemen.
This large wine ewer has a baluster shaped form onto a circular pedestal foot.
The rim of the ewer and border encircling the pedestal foot are embellished with fine gadroon decoration.
The lower portion of the body has fluted decoration.
This splendid piece is fitted with an impressive chased decorated scroll handle ornamented with a chased decorated acanthus leaf thumbpiece and upper socket in addition to a floral motif.
The lower portion of the handle is embellished with applied waterleaf decoration and a pierced decorated shaped scrolling terminal.
This magnificent antique William Batemen ewer is an exceptionally large and important piece of antique silverware.
Condition
This antique wine ewer is an exceptional gauge of silver, very fine quality and in excellent condition.
The engraved decoration is very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface are very clear.
