An exceptional and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver wine ewer; an addition to our dining silverware collection


Description


This exceptional and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver wine jug has a ewer form onto a circular pedestal foot.


The jug is ornamented with a broad applied Romanesque figural freeze encircling the body.


A band of embossed egg and tongue decoration embellishes the upper portion of the jug and the foot.


This large jug is fitted with an impressive embossed fluted and acanthus leaf decorated scrolling cast handle with a pine cone adorned upper socket.


Condition


This substantial antique wine ewer is an very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface are all clear, apart from the maker's mark which is slightly rubbed but legible.

Part hallmarks struck to the underside of the foot are clear.


Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.
