This antique Victorian sterling silver bowl has a circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot.
The body of the bowl is embellished with shaped panels incorporating chased scrolling leaf decoration and two shaped cartouches.
One side of this impressive Victorian bowl displays a fine enamel and bright cut engraved scene from the Shakespearean play “As You Like It” depicting Rosalind, Celia and Touchstone wandering in the Forest of Arden.
This cartouche is further embellished below with the engraved wording “As You Like It, Act 2nd Scene 4th“ .
The large shaped cartouche to the other side of the bowl is vacant.
The monteith style decorated rim of this Victorian bowl is embellished with scrolling leaf and stylised bud chased decoration.
The foot of this bowl is embellished with an undulating band of chased decoration.
The well of this antique bowl is plain and unembellished.
This impressive bowl retains its original parcel gilt finish.
This unusual Victorian bowl is completely original and an exceptional example of its type.
Condition
This antique bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.
The decoration is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the bowl are all very clear.
