Description

These fine antique English sterling silver and cut glass candlesticks are crafted in the Corinthian style.

The Corinthian capitals of these Victorian candlesticks retain the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconces ornamented with a bead decorated borders.

Each antique candlestick has an unusual cut glass column onto a circular sterling silver collet setting and bead bordered square swept spreading base.

The base is ornamented with a fine and impressive applied belt and buckle bordered crest of an arm couped at the shoulder in a maunch, embowed in fess, the elbow resting on the wreath below the motto ‘Fidem Servo’ – I keep faith.

Both Victorian candlesticks have weighted bases as expected and are fitted with green baize to the underside.

Date: 1894

Condition

These antique Corinthian candlesticks are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

Each candlestick has a few surface scratches and minor dings; to the rear side of one candlestick is a small minor 5mm opening to the silver of the collet column setting.

The wear to each candlestick is in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and sleeve of each sconce are all very clear; the maker’s marks to the bases have some wear but remain legible.

Such candlesticks with glass columns are rare to the market, and are therefore worthy of inclusion in the AC Silver inventory.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Victorian silverware.
