A fine and impressive antique Victorian glass, snakeskin and silver mounted hip flask; part of our hip flask collection Description
This fine Victorian sterling silver hip flask has a rectangular shaped form with rounded corners.
The flask has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets.
The upper portion of the glass body is ornamented with a snakeskin covering.
This impressive antique flask is fitted with a plain domed hallmarked hinged cover with bayonet fitting .
This Victorian flask retains the original detachable push fit drinking cup which has a gilt interior.
To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.
There are two recommended methods to ensure that the cork does not dry out and shrink:
Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.
Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this over night, or for 24 hours if possible, before use.
Condition
This antique Victorian hip flask is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The snake skin is in excellent condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the drinking cup and cover are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
