Description

These fine antique George V sterling silver dressing table boxes have a plain cylindrical form.

The body of each box is encircled with a plain embossed decorated band below the sleeve.

Each box is fitted with a push fit hallmarked sterling silver cover featuring an impressive tortoiseshell panel ornamented with unusual piqué work depicting the White Star liner 'Pittsburg'*.

The interior of each cover features a circular mirror.

The boxes accommodate the original powders and puff.

* The Pittsburgh was built in Belfast in 1913 and didn’t start service till 1922 where her main voyages were between Liverpool and Boston. In 1926 she was renamed and refitted as the Red Star liner 'Pennland' used for troop transport. She sank in 1941 during a German air raid.
