Description


This exceptional antique George V sterling silver jewellery box has a rounded serpentine shaped form.


The surface of the body and sides of the cover are plain and unembellished.


This large antique jewellery box is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover incorporating an impressive tortoiseshell panel ornamented with exceptional silver piqué work depicting intertwined scrolling brackets supporting simplified floral garlands.


This tortoiseshell box is supported by pierced decorated bracket style feet, each with scrolling leaf decorated borders with a central floral motif, reflecting the same style as the decoration to the cover.


The box is fitted with the original red velvet lined interior.


The base is weighted, as to be expected, and retains the original leatherette to the underside.

Condition


This antique tortoiseshell box is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The interior of the box is in excellent condition, in keeping with age.

The enamel and pique work is in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the box and part hallmarks to the surface of the cover are all very clear; the date letter to the underside is partially worn but remains legible.


Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
