This fine antique Edwardian tortoiseshell and sterling silver mantel clock has a plain waisted form.
The clock is embellished with tortoiseshell panels with a silver frame.
This antique clock retains the original hallmarked angular handles to each side, and is surmounted by the original sterling silver urn shaped finial.
The white enamel clock face is clearly marked with black Arabic hour numerals encircled with a minute marked chapter ring which incorporates red minute numerals denoting each quarter hour ie 15, 30, 45 and 60.
The clock is fitted with black shaped hands.
The hallmarked hinged cover to the reverse opens to reveal the original eight-day French movement with winding key.
This impressive clock has a weighted base and retains the original leather cover to the underside.
Clocks with tortoiseshell in perfect condition are rare to the market.
Condition
This fine antique mantel clock is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The tortoiseshell is in perfect condition.
The movement has been professionally serviced, and the clock sold with a twelve month guarantee (after this period assistance with maintenance can be provided if required).
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the back of the clock show slight wear, in keeping with age, but remain legible.
Part hallmarks as expected struck to the handle and interior of the cover are all clear; the hallmarks to the cover are very crisp.
Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of Edwardian silverware.
