A Fine and Impressive Antique Edwardian English Sterling Silver Two-Handled Tea Tray

Description

This impressive tray has a rectangular form with rounded corners.

There is a band of bright cut engraved shell and fern leaf decoration to the surface of the tray, with an oval bright cut engraved vacant cartouche in a similar design to the centre.

The swept border has an applied and chased gadroon, acanthus leaf and shell decorated rim.

The impressive handles also have gadroon and acanthus leaf decoration.

The tray is supported by four original hallmarked bun feet (see image).

Condition

This splendid tray is an extremely good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp, and the decoration to the border and handles very sharp.

Full hallmarks to the surface of the tray, and part hallmarks struck to each foot, are all very clear (John and William F Deakin).
