Wine, drink and hashtags? …I know, hashtags wouldn’t normally spring to mind along with the prior in a game of word association. However, I can guarantee it will all make sense soon, bear with me!
In a previous blog, I briefly mentioned the fact that I am a ‘social media and digital marketing’ apprentice here at AC Silver, meaning it is mainly my job to occupy our Twitter, Facebook, Google + (and others), keeping our followers and fans up to date and entertained through posts, images, videos and much more, relating to the business.
You may be familiar with the social networking phenomenon known as ‘hashtagging’, if not, you’re in the right place to find out more…
Hashtags are ‘a word or phrase preceded by a hash sign (#), used on social media sites such as Twitter to identify messages on a specific topic.’ The impact that hashtagging has had on social media is huge, as they enable users to instantly find posts relating to the topic they are interested in. This can lead to finding out information, having conversations and finding out the thoughts and opinions of others.
So where does wine and drink come into this Marc? Why wine and drink?
Well, when tweeting away on Twitter, we came across the hashtag #WineWednesday. It just so happens that at AC Silver we have a range of ‘Wine and Drink related’ items, tankards, goblets, wine coolers coasters… we have a lot! So, who began the #Wine Wednesday hashtag? We don’t know, but do we take part and post using the hashtag? Of course we do.
https://twitter.com/hashtag/winewednesday
Most Wednesday afternoons we create a post on Twitter and Facebook which focuses on an item/ group of items from our Wine and Drink related collection. The post may look at wine coolers, goblets or coasters for example. Either way, images will be added to the post along with the all-important #WineWednesday hashtag.
But what is the benefit of these posts?
A simple process like this allows a business like us to mix interactivity and fun with stock and the aim of a business, which is of course to provide our customers with fine, luxurious items of silverware and jewellery. Social media and social networking sites enable us to be creative with our stock and content in many different ways. Images and videos, both stock and non-stock related, provide our audience with a variation of perspectives and perceptions of our business and what we’re about.
As well as posting an image/ compilation of ours, we also appreciate other users and their images, via shares and retweets on social networking sites. Interactivity is positive! Here is an image we enjoyed, courtesy of the renowned wine specialists, Veuve Clicquot.
If our hashtags help our following find what they’re after, or provide some entertainment, then we know we have achieved our aim. Everyone is a #winner!
