Parallel to any business runs business branding. Marketing and promotion is constantly at the forefront of strategic planning with the specific aim of moving a business to the next level.
Anyway, moving away from the technical stuff, here at AC Silver the introduction of ‘white-background stock images’ is a specific plan which has been considered for many months… This year, we decided to take the plunge! And so the process (a very long one) has begun.
After some experimentation, trialling and testing, we can happily say that we’re very pleased with the ‘outcome’ (we’re still in the production phase!) of this decision. The consensus is that the white background provides a professional, fresh approach to our images, allowing the customer to focus more easily on the item of interest.
In fact, these new ‘white background’ images are sending us down a new path into the world of animated GIF’s.
What is a GIF?
…GIF? I hear you ask. Well, the classic definition is that GIF is the acronym for Graphics Interchange Format (file extension). The simple definition is that a GIF produces a graphic image, on a webpage, that moves. For example, a twirling icon or a series of ordered images which essentially make an animation.
Why use GIF?
So why use these ‘GIFS’? Well… let’s be honest, it’s tough to hold the attention of someone for more than a few minutes in our busy modern society, whilst online. Video, or movement in general, is more likely to grab a user’s attention. Moving images have the power to tell a story more than static content.
Through sequencing a series of images taken from an item description page on our website, we are able to create our own animated GIFS. Okay, we admit it, they may not necessarily tell a story but they are interesting to watch, (and fun to make, sometimes adding light-hearted humour to a page) providing a contemporary touch to our posts across social networking sites.
