For many people, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. However, this is especially true for jewellery lovers. As soon as December hits you will be able to spot a jewellery fanatic (and their diamonds) a mile off. When the festive season arrives a jewellery fan can be found decked out in the manner of a Christmas fir. They often outshine the tree itself! But why do we jewellery fiends love the festive period so much? Read on for an insight into our gemstone obsessed minds.
Deck the Halls
Christmas ‘tis the season for indulgence. Whether your vice is sparkling sequins, tangles of tinsel or mince pies galore, Christmas is the time to treat yourself. Jewellery lovers celebrate this decadence with a true dedication to glamour. The festive period is undoubtedly a jewellery fans time to shine- literally! Although there may not be much room in day-to-day life for such excess, at Christmas it is basically a crime for a jewellery lover not to bedazzle themselves in diamonds at any given opportunity. We jewellery fanatics see the festive period as the perfect opportunity to show off all of our accessories- sometimes at once. Cocktail rings, diamond brooches and layered pendants? Why not, it’s Christmas! An abundance of occasional events mean that there is much fun to be had with accessories, which is why this is the time that we truly thrive.
Although the nights may be darker, the world really comes alive with colour at Christmas time. Luxurious golds, greens and reds are traditional shades that reign supreme each year. These rich colours look wonderful not only decorating the house, but yourself too. Jewellery lovers adore the festive period because it gives them the perfect opportunity to reach for their ruby and emerald jewels. Rubies are officially Santa approved, with this rich red suit being the inspiration for many seasonal trends. Evergreen emerald hues are a stunning way to introduce a pop of colour to a festive outfit- it is unsurprising that these gemstones are a popular way of proposing at Christmas. The antique brooch pictured below is a wonderful way to embrace seasonal colours. Plus, it can be pinned to your coat so you don’t have to sacrifice style for warmth!
Is there a better time for novelty than Christmas? No matter how old we get, the excitement for those silly cracker prizes remains the same. However, jewellery lovers approach the novelty of Christmas in a much more stylish way. The festive themes that can be embraced at this time of year are endless. Brooches fashioned into the form of snowflakes make for a wonderfully Christmassy accessory, while large pearl cocktail rings make for the most sophisticated snowballs we have ever seen. A fan favourite however is the classic coral ring. Bright and bold, a red coral piece is reminiscent of Rudolph’s nose in all the best ways. Pieces such as this are seasonally appropriate yet are stunning enough to be worn year round- a win for any jewellery lover!
Christmas is steeped in tradition. With a whole host of weird and wonderful customs from around the world, the festive season has a rich cultural history that is fascinating to learn about. This makes it the dream holiday of an accessory addict who adores antique jewellery. Vintage and antique jewellery has a character about it that is hard to beat. So it is unsurprising that jewellery lovers like to add to festive tradition by imagining Christmases gone by where their accessory took centre stage. If antiques could speak then I’m certain our jewellery would have a tale or two to tell about Christmas past!
Now, Christmas presents certainly aren’t the ‘reason for the season’. However I think I speak for all jewellery lovers when I admit I would never turn down an addition to my jewellery box! Some will always cross their fingers for vintage engagement rings every year too! Jewellery fans are exceptionally easy to impress at Christmas; if it sparkles, they’ll probably like it. The potential for some new bling may not be the main reason jewellery lovers look forward to the festive season, however it certainly doesn’t hurt. Some people dream of a white Christmas, however jewellery lovers are almost certainly dreaming of diamonds.
