NOTE: * In heraldic terms Y Ddraig Goch represents a dragon passant; the word passant (Old French: 'striding') describes a beast, such as a dragon or lion, facing left and walking with the right foreleg raised. The dragon passant can be found within family heraldry and blazons, however it is most commonly known displayed on the national flag and is the official symbol of Wales; this flag was official from 1959, however the red dragon has been associated with Wales for centuries.
