Description
This stunning, fine and impressive antique bee brooch has been crafted in 15 ct and 9 ct yellow gold, with silver settings.
The brooch consists of three parts; two individual brooches each modelled in the form of a bee, suspending from a safety clip style fastening.
The thorax and abdomen of the bees are each embellished with a feature pavé set round cut ruby.
Each of the 9 ct yellow gold bees have a silver setting embellished with thirty-three pavé set Dutch cut diamonds, encompassing the aforementioned rubies and extending across the forewing and hindwing.
The silver setting to each bee's abdomen is further embellished with a textured finish, reproducing the details of the bee's scopa/hair.
This flying creature's legs and head are crafted in 9ct yellow gold, set with two collet set cabochon cut opals to represent the eyes.
The brooches secure to the reverse with a hinged pin and clip.
These stunning brooches suspend from a 15 ct yellow gold safety pin style design, ornamented with a single seed pearl conjoining two 15 ct yellow gold belcher chain drops.
The belcher chains are accented with seven seed pearls, evenly dispersed.
The brooch is fitted to the exceptional, original leatherette push fit presentation box, with an impressive velvet and satin lined interior, and a push fit catch.
The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'By appointment to the Queen, The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company LTD, 112, Regent ST London'.
This stunning antique Victorian insect brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 15 ct and 9 ct yellow gold with silver settings.
The brooch is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card.
NOTE: The Victorian period saw the popularisation of the bee being used within naturalistic jewellery. A patron of such a piece was declaring they modelled their behaviour on the bee's example of great assiduousness, an excellent work ethic and loyalty.
