The body of this antique gold snuff box is embellished with panels of impressive engine turned decoration framed with plain borders.
This impressive box is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover ornamented with a continuation of the decoration to the body
The anterior surface of the cover features an applied incurved thumbpiece.
The engine turned decoration to the cover incorporates a vacant rectangular cartouche to the centre.
NOTE: Engine turned decoration was first used in the 16th century on soft materials such as wood, until the 18th century when it was adopted for soft metals such as gold and silver.
