This magnificent vintage 1950's Ceylon sapphire pendant has been crafted in 18 ct yellow gold.
The extended octagonal setting displays a stunning feature collet set 36.50 ct octagonal cut Ceylon sapphire*.
The feature sapphire is framed within two realistically modelled writhing snake shaped settings, which entwine and surround the central arrangement.
The snakes are embellished with thirteen flush set modern brilliant round cut diamonds, and are embellished with a textured scale decoration to the surface.
The interwoven tails of the snakes, to the upper border of the design, frame an individually six claw set modern brilliant round cut diamond.
The pendant suspends from a later vintage 9 ct yellow gold flat box chain via a discreet ring loop to the upper border of the design, disguised within the curled tails of the snakes.
The chain is hallmarked to the conventional spring loaded bolt ring fastening with the maker's makr 'ALD', the 9 ct gold fineness mark (375), the London import mark, the date letter for 1978 (D) and the date '1978'.
* Ceylon sapphires (mined only in Sri Lanka) are known for their unique colour, ranging from very pale blue to vibrant almost electric blue. The colours noted within Ceylon sapphires occur naturally and do not tend to be heat treated, the most sought after known as the cornflower blue.
This impressive sapphire snake pendant has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 ct gold.
The pendant is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card for the supporting stones, in addition to a full sapphire certificate and report card produced by the Gemmological Certification Services.
Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.
