Antique Glass and Silver Hip Flask

Acid Etched, Cut Glass and 9ct Yellow Gold Hip Flask - Antique George V

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V acid etched, cut glass and English 9 carat yellow gold hip flask; an addition to our silver mounted glass collection

SKU A6930

This exceptional George V antique glass and silver hip flask has a rectangular form with rounded corners.

The glass body of this antique glass flask is embellished with impressive acid etched ribbon bow designs connected with suspended floral swags and medallions.

The lower portion of the body is fitted with a fine and impressive push fit hallmarked drinking cup embellished with the contemporary bright cut engraved initials 'K.D.B'.

The upper portion of the drinking cup is encompassed with a plain moulded border to the rim.

This impressive flask is fitted with a full hallmarked mount and retains the original domed hinged tortoiseshell cover with a hallmarked bayonet fitting.

Gold examples such as this are becoming increasingly difficult to locate and are highly desirable.

This flask has been tested for watertightness and is ready for use.

To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.

There are two recommended methods to ensure that the cork does not dry out and shrink:

Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.

Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this overnight, or for 24 hours if possible, before use.

This antique gold hip flask is an exceptional gauge of gold, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The gold mount and cup have minor surface blemishes in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved initials are very crisp.

The glass body of the flask is in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the drinking cup and mount, in addition to the part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of gold.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
