Description

This exceptional antique American sterling silver preserve pot has been realistically modelled in the form of a drum.

The cylindrical body is embellished with applied rope twist decoration accented with impressive belt strap designs, reproducing the details of the tension rods.

The upper rim/counterhoop and base of the preserve pot are encompassed with applied moulded borders.

This impressive preserve pot retains the original hallmarked push fit 'drum head' cover and is surmounted with an exceptional sterling silver finial modelled in the form of a pair of crossed drumsticks.

The cover is further ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved initial 'M'.

This antique preserve pot is fitted with the original removable cranberry coloured glass liner.

This exceptional example of American silverware retains the original hallmarked preserve spoon, ornamented with the identical initial to that of the cover.

This impressive piece was crafted by the American silversmiths R Blackinton & Co, who were known for their production of sterling silver novelties in addition to some flatware and small holloware.

Condition

This preserve pot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The applied ornamentation is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full American hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and to the reverse of the spoon all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of American silverware.
