This exceptional antique Austro-Hungarian 20ct yellow gold bodkin*/cheroot case has an oval cylindrical form.

The body of this antique gold case is embellished with panels of engine turned decoration encompassed with gold scrolling leaf decorated borders.

The decoration to the body incorporates matte panels to the sides, further ornamented with elongated floral vase designs.

The upper and lower portion of the case are encompassed with exceptional applied simplified rosette and foliate decorated borders, accented with tri-coloured gold highlights.

This impressive antique 20ct gold box is fitted with a push fit cover ornamented with further tri-colour gold bordered engine turned decorated panels, reflecting the design to the body.

The cover incorporates two shield shape cartouches; one bears the contemporary engraved crest of a griffin passant and the other the inscription 'Juliana Lucas'.

This gold box has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 20 carat gold.

NOTE: * A bodkin case was used to store an oversized, large eye sewing needle. The implement had a blunt point to enable a drawstring to be pulled through fabric without piercing the overall design. These ornate lady's cases were versatile, enabling them to be utilised for a variety of functions (such as cheroot cases).

Maker: Unknown

This antique 20ct bodkin/cheroot case is an exceptional gauge of gold, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The engine turned and applied decoration is very sharp and the engraved ornamentation is very crisp.

The hallmarks to the sleeve of the body of this Austro-Hungarian gold box are clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique 19th century piece.
