An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique Georgian English Britannia standard silver child's mug; an addition to our 18th century collectable silverware collection

This exceptional and rare antique George I Britannia* silver child's mug has a swept cylindrical form.


The surface of this antique silver mug is plain and unembellished.


The mug is fitted with an impressive S scroll handle, incorporating moulded ornamentation to the handpiece.


The foot of the mug is encircled with an applied moulded border.


The underside of this exceptional example of Georgian silverware bears the contemporary engraved initials 'IT' to the underside.


* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
