This magnificent antique Edwardian Britannia standard* silver flagon has a globular shaped body onto a circular spreading foot.

The surface of this magnificent flagon has a planished finish, in the iconic Arts and Crafts style.

The cylindrical neck of the sterling silver flagon incorporates a convex shaped spout to the front in addition to two Arts and Crafts style embossed circular motifs below the flared rim.

The upper portion of the large body of the flagon is encircled with an impressive chased scrolling leaf decorated border.

This impressive silver flagon retains the original hallmarked domed hinged cover encircled with the identical ornamentation to that of the body.

The cover is surmounted with a fine and impressive bifurcating and entwined stemmed thumbpiece embellished with chased clustered bead decoration, terminating to the base of the stems at the substantial and impressive hinge.

The plateaued top of the cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting issuing out of a castle of two towers, a soldier grasping in his dexter hand a sword and sinister a flag.

The flagon is fitted with a C shaped Britannia silver handle ornamented with chased decorated subtly curved pales.

The lower socket of the handle is embellished with an impressive applied fleur-de-lis stylised leaf design.

The circular spreading foot is encircled with a further band of chased scrolling leaf decoration.

The underside of the sterling silver flagon bears the retailer's mark 'Carrington & Co, 130 Regent St W'.

* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).

The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved crest is very crisp.

Full Britannia hallmarks struck to the surface and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.
