Description


This antique Queen Anne Britannia standard silver* porringer has a circular rounded form.


The lower portion of this antique porringer is embellished with embossed alternating fluted decoration in a subtle swirl design, incorporating a scrolling leaf and scale motif bordered cartouche to one side.


The circular cartouche is ornamented with the contemporary engraved initials 'D R, R T'.


The upper portion is encircled with an impressive embossed fluted decorated girdle flanked with bands of engraved simplified leaf motifs.


This antique silver porringer is fitted with two cast silver ribbed S scroll handles.


* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
