Description

These magnificent antique George III English cast sterling silver candlesticks have a circular rounded knopped form to a circular spreading base.

These antique silver candlesticks feature bell shaped capitals, encompassed with convex fluted decoration to the lower portion.

Each capital retains the original detachable push fit sconce, embellished with a bead decorated border to the rim and featuring a contemporary engraved crest of a lion passant guardant.

The tapering cylindrical columns are encompassed with concave fluted decoration, and each incorporates a convex fluted decorated knop to the upper portion.

These 18th century cast silver candlesticks have circular bases encompassed with further bead decoration to a swept lower portion and collet style rim.

Each base is further embellished with a contemporary engraved coat of arms displaying firstly a barry of six from the base, chiefly a parly of four, with an inescutcheon of a barry of six and secondly a chevron between three griffin's heads erased.

These magnificent antique silver candlesticks do not have weighted bases and feature the full London hallmarks to the interior rim.

These Georgian candlesticks were crafted by the renown and very important London silversmith John Schofield.

Date: 1784

Condition

These antique 18th century cast silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior rim of each base are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

The part hallmarks to the sleeve of each sconce have wear in keeping with age and use.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these fine examples of antique silverware.
