SORRY ITEM SOLD

This exceptional antique Victorian cut glass and English sterling silver mounted claret jug has a tapering oval form.

The neck is fitted with a fine and impressive plain oval hallmarked sterling silver mount, retaining the original hallmarked hinged domed cover and fitted with a plain spout.

This Victorian claret jug is ornamented with a sterling silver snake handle; the snake's body envelopes around the cut glass body of the jug.

This fine and impressive handle has a textured finish replicating the details of the snake's scales and the upper socket/snake's head is embellished with naturalistic bead eyes.

The body of this antique jug is embellished with hobnail cut glass decoration and ornamented with a star cut motif to the underside.

This claret jug was made by John Thomas Heath & John Hartshorne Middleton, subsequently Hukin & Heath Ltd of Birmingham.

Date: 1896

The mount of this antique Victorian claret jug is an excellent gauge of silver and exceptional quality.

This claret jug is in excellent presentation condition in keeping with age; there are a couple of small dings to the top of the sterling silver mount, and few minor nibbles to the glass hobnails, but these do not detract from the overall appearance and quality of this piece.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount and part hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover are very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this impressive Hukin and Heath claret jug.
