Description

This fine and impressive, rare antique locket has been crafted in 21 ct yellow gold.

The exceptional yellow gold locket has a circular form and features a 0.05ct Dutch cut diamond to the upper portion of the design.

The anterior face of the medallion style locket is embellished with a chased decoration scene depicting a male rider on horseback, fending off the attack of a leopard/wild cat*.

The locket if further ornamented with a paralleling millegrain decorated border, incorporating a symmetrical curvilinear framework to either side of the central design.

The surface of the locket, including the sides and reverse panel, have a satin finish.

The hinged panel opens to one side revealing the original blue fabric to the interior.

The pendant suspends from an 18 ct yellow gold 18" trace chain via a ring loop to the upper border of the frame.

The chain secures with a conventional spring-loaded bolt ring fastening.

This rare antique diamond locket has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 21 ct gold.

The pendant is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card.

NOTE: * This scene portrays cultural similarities to the 19th century bronze statue 'Amazone zu Pferde' crafted by August Kiss; this may have been the form of inspiration for the piece. The bronze statue is displayed outside the Altes Museum in Berlin (Germany) and is based on a smaller clay model Kiss crafted in 1839. This influential and dramatic design spurred further zinc examples to be crafted, which exist in England, Italy and other areas of Germany, in addition to a bronze copy installed in 1929 in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
