19th Century Silver Tea Caddy

Dutch Silver Tea Caddy - Antique Circa 1880

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Dutch silver tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection

SKU C6139

This exceptional antique Dutch silver tea caddy has an oval urn shaped form onto an oval pedestal foot.

The surface of this 19th century silver tea caddy is plain and unembellished with an impressive applied reed decorated border to the upper rim.

This impressive tea caddy is fitted with a hinged cover, accented with a swept, subtly concave upper portion encompassed with further applied reed decoration.

The cover is surmounted by an impressive pineapple style silver finial.

The tea caddy retains the original key and locking mechanism; this lock is not functional.

The hallmarks struck to this impressive silver box include:

Maker's mark: ABI (untraced)

Silver quality/purity mark: Lion rampant 1 (.934 minimum, 934/1000)

This exceptional example of antique teaware bears the same hallmark credentials and is crafted in the same style as the Dutch silver teaset C6306; they would all sit very well together.
