This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver sugar bowl has a circular cushion shaped form onto four feet.

The surface of the bowl is embellished with chased, large interlacing leaf motifs on a textured background; the leaf designs conjoin to form a plain starburst motif to the underside.

The decoration to the body of the sugar bowl incorporates six cartouches, each displaying a simplified Dutch style rural architectural scene.

The upper portion of the body is ornamented with a band of chased ribbed decoration below the plain swept rim.

The bowl is fitted with the original domed hallmarked cover, encircled with a scalloped border and surmounted with an impressive and original floral and foliate finial.

This exceptional bowl is fitted with a pair of chased leaf decorated handles featuring a subtly incurved scrolling handpiece.

This antique bowl is supported by four impressive chased leaf decorated legs.

The hallmarks struck to the body and cover include:

Importer's mark: ETB (Edwin Thompson Bryant)

Silver quality/purity mark: 930*, Lion passant (sterling, 925/1000)

Import date mark: f (1901)

Assay mark: Leopard head (London, England)

Additional mark: F (foreign manufacture mark)

This exceptional sugar bowl bears the same hallmark credentials and is crafted in the same style as the teapot A5222; they would sit very well together.

* The country of origin hallmarked this item with the standard mark 930 and once imported into Britain the silver purity was tested and hallmarks struck reaffirming the silver is a minimum of sterling standard.

This antique silver sugar bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The chased decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear.

The silver standard hallmark '930' to the underside of the bowl is also very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Edwardian silverware.
