French Porcelain, Silver and Glass Inkwell - Antique Circa 1900

This exceptional antique French porcelain, silver and glass inkwell has been modelled in the form of a seated oriental figure holding a frog.

The spotted frog has a hinged hallmarked silver gilt cover surmounted with a lily pad and flower design.

The cover has a scrolling thumbpiece to the anterior surface of the rim, which pivots to reveal the removable glass ink pot.

The porcelain figure has detailed red painted designs to his coat with a large blue and white draped tasselled hood, which could be used as a receptacle for stamps.

The figure is seated on a shaped mirrored plateau with a hallmarked French silver gilt decorated border and base.

The base is supported by four bun feet.

Read about the history of the inkwell here.

This antique porcelain inkwell is a good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition.

The porcelain and glass are in perfect condition.

Hallmarks struck to the underside and part hallmarks to the inkpot sleeve are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique porcelain, glass and silverware.
