These magnificent antique French silver candlesticks have a plain hexagonal panelled form onto a stepped hexagonal base, all in the classic 18th century form.

The panelled capitals are encompassed with bands of applied moulded decoration.

The tapering panelled columns feature stepped hexagonal knops to the upper and lower portions.

The columns surmount a plain domed portion of the stepped hexagonal base accented with an incurved collet style rim.

These antique French candlesticks, crafted during the reign of His Most Christian Majesty The King Louis XVI, have fine colour and patination*.

The hallmarks struck to the underside of these candlesticks include:

Maker's mark: PJ (Philippe Jouque)

Assay mark: AR (Arras, France)

Silver purity: .949 standard - indicated by assay mark (949/1000)

* Patination or Patina is a subtle colouration or tarnish which forms on the surface of some metals, produced by oxidation or other chemical processes. A good patina proffers an aesthetically pleasing look.

These 18th century French candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

French hallmarks struck to the underside of each base and interior of the columns are all clear in keeping with age.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique continental silverware.
