Description


This exceptional antique French silver samovar has a rounded square shaped form supported by four scrolling legs to button style feet.


The surface of the samovar is embellished with embossed convex fluted decoration in a graduating arrangement to the lower portion.


The upper portion of the body is embellished with impressive engraved interlacing scrolling motifs, accented with stylised foliate designs.


The upper rim of the body is encompassed with an applied gadroon decorated border.


The body of this exceptional silver samovar is fitted with an exceptional cast tap embellished with a figural bearded mask to the terminal.


The tap is fitted with the original turned wood baluster shaped spigot/handle.


The samovar is fitted with a pair of exceptional cast silver handles, accented with terminals replicating the details of the fluted ornamentation to the body, in addition to a knop the centre of each handpiece.


This impressive 20th century samovar retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover encompassed with further engraved ornamentation.


The cover is surmounted with an exceptional and original cast silver floral bud finial.


The body of the samovar features a silver stand supported by four impressive scrolling legs, each terminating with turned wood feet.


The stand retains the original hallmarked spirit burner with integrated hinged snuffer.


The spirit burner is ornamented with embossed and engraved decoration reflecting that of the samovar body.


This exceptional spirit burner is fitted with a turned wood handle to one side.


The hallmarks struck to this antique silver samovar include:

Maker's mark: G F segmented with a falcon / un faucon, G. Falkenberg (Georges Falkenberg)

Silver quality/purity mark: Minerva mark


Condition


This antique French silver samovar is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The embossed and cast decoration is all very sharp and the engraved ornamentation is very crisp.

The French hallmarks struck to the rim of the cover and underside of the body and spirit burner are all very clear.
