An exceptional, fine and impressive antique French silver wine/champagne cooler; an addition to our presentation silverware collection

SKU C5969

This exceptional antique French silver wine cooler has a circular rounded form.

The panelled surface of this antique silver wine cooler is embellished impressive flat engraved scrolling foliate arrays, emanating from cast and applied floral and leaf decorated collar designs.

The upper portion of the body is encompassed with a layered applied moulded border to the shaped rim.

The antique wine cooler is fitted with two cast and applied scrolling leaf decorated handpieces.

As often the case, this 950 standard silver wine cooler retains the original electroplated silver liner, featuring two hinged drop loop handles to the interior.

The hallmarks struck to the underside of the cooler and handle include:

Maker's mark: R&C/A.Risler & Carré (André Risler & George Carré*)

Silver quality/purity mark: Minerva mark, 1 (.950, 950/1000)

* The renowned French silversmith André Risler and his partner Georges Carré opened their Parisian shop in 1897, providing fine silverware and stunning jewellery. Risler & Carré conquered the luxury market and won a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900; with a continuation of successors at later events including their rise to worldwide fame from the Universal Exhibition in 1904. Their items reflected not only the Louis XVI style but also displayed modern Art Nouveau influences.

This antique French silver wine cooler is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The flat engraved decoration is very crisp and the cast ornamentation is very sharp.

The French hallmarks struck to the underside of the vessel and handles, in addition to the rim of the base and surface of the upper rim's border are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of continental silverware.
