German Silver Pepperette - Antique Circa 1900

This exceptional antique Victorian cast sterling silver pepper has been realistically modelled in the form of a male character.

This impressive silver pepper has been embellished with details reproducing the gentlemans anatomical features, in addition to his period attire complete with brimmed hat, jacket, waistcoat, ribbon neck tie and pantaloons.

This pepperette is further embellished with a walking stick/cane, in addition to one hand being to his back, holding a single rose; this character represents a cultural influence of the period, which is undetermined.

The posterior surface of the characters hat/head features pierced 'pepper' holes.

This sterling silver piece retains the original hallmarked hinged cover, accessible to the underside of the jacket.

The hallmarks struck to the underside of this German silver figural pepper include:

Maker's mark: n (Ludwig Neresheimer)

Silver quality/purity mark: 800 (800/1000)

National mark/reichsmark: Crescent moon and crown, Germany (Halbmond und Krone)
