An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique German sterling silver spice box realistically modelled in the form of a fish; an addition to our animal related silverware collection

This exceptional antique German sterling silver box has been realistically modelled in the form of a fish.


This impressive fish shaped box has an articulated body, allowing the fish's position to be customised.


The body of the box is embellished with separate dorsal and pectoral fins, in addition to rows of engraved scales.


The forked caudal/tail fin is further ornamented with engraved textures replicating the fish's natural features


This antique silver fish box retains the original hallmarked push fit hinged cover/head.


The mouth of the fish is composed of a secondary hinged cover.


The impressive head of the fish is embellished with two collet set gem eyes.


The hallmarks struck to this impressive box include:

Maker's mark: Pseudo marks (Karl Kurz, Kesselstadt)

Importer's mark: BML (Boaz Moses Landeck)

Import mark: Chester, England

Silver quality/purity mark: .925 (sterling standard)

Import date mark: K (1910)

The engraved decoration is all very crisp.

The German hallmarks to the interior of the head and Chester import hallmarks to the head and tail are all very clear.
