Description

This magnificent antique Indian colonial silver teapot has a compressed melon shaped form.

The surface of the teapot is embellished with fine and impressive chased stemmed floral, rose and foliate ornamentation to each lobed section, all on a matt background.

The lower portion of each panel terminates with a plain, incurved arabesque decorated border.

The decoration to the body incorporates a scroll bordered vacant cartouche to one side.

The flared, shaped upper rim is ornamented with an undulating border ornamented with exceptional chased leaf textures.

This antique silver teapot is fitted with a hinged cover embellished with further chased designs, identical to that of the body.

The cover is surmounted with the impressive embossed and chased decorated silver floral and foliate shaped finial, securing to the interior with a screw fitment.

The impressive C scroll handle is ornamented with a large single leaf design which is incorporated into the shaped thumbpiece and upper socket.

The impressive swan necked spout is ornamented with a chased leaf motif to the lip, a large splayed leaf design to the upper portion of the socket and striating leaf textures to the lower portion, in junction with the body.

This teapot is supported on four impressive chased scrolling leaf decorated bracket style feet accented with encased shell designs.

This magnificent teapot is a substantially greater weight than expected, for such an example.
