Description


This exceptional antique Indian silver presentation cup has a bell shaped form onto a knopped circular pedestal foot.


The body of the cup is embellished with fine and impressive profuse chased scrolling leaf and floral decoration, all on a matte background; a style typically found in Cutch (Kutch) silver work from the second half of the nineteenth century.


The ornamentation to the body incorporates a shield shaped cartouche to one side and incorporates paralleling rope twist decoration.


The upper and lower portions of the cylidrical segment of the body are encircled with reflected leaf decorated borders.


The lower subtly bulbous portion of the body incorporates plain lobed panels ornamented with single stemmed scrolling foliate designs.


The upper rim of the cup is embellished with an applied reed decorated border.


The cup is fitted with two sweeping angular handles ornamented with a geometric lozenge designs to the anterior surface.


The circular spreading pedestal foot is encompassed with a flared, shaped leaf decorated knop, above swept fluted decoration.


The base of the cup is further ornamented with undulating stemmed foliate designs, all on a matte background and flanked with rope twist decorated borders.

This antique Indian silver presentation cup is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased decoration is all very sharp.

The Indian hallmark struck to the rim of the foot is clear in keeping with age.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Indian silverware.
