Irish Sterling Silver Gilt Chalice - Antique George III (1764)

Description

This exceptional antique George III Irish sterling silver ecclesiastical chalice has a circular rounded bell shaped form onto a knopped pedestal and circular domed foot.

The surface of the antique silver chalice is plain and unembellished.

The drinking vessel is supported by a hallmarked baluster shaped knopped pedestal.

The foot is embellished with a contemporary engraved crucifixion in addition to the inscription 'Hic Calix pertinet ad Revdum Domni Michaelem Vardon A.D 1764' to the rim.

The circular drinking vessel retains the original gilding; this has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion to an aesthetically pleasing mellow colour. Crazing to the vessel gilding gives the impression of surface damage, this is not the case.
