Newcastle Sterling Silver Salvers - Antique George II (1741 / 1755)

Description

These exceptional antique George II Newcastle sterling silver salvers have a circular shaped form.

The surface of each salver is embellished with a bright cut engraved scrolling leaf bordered cartouche displaying a coat of arms depicting three fish palewise*.

The raised rounded Chippendale shaped borders are ornamented with applied moulded decoration to the rims.

Each Georgian sterling silver salver is supported by three impressive cast sterling silver volute scrolling feet.

One of these Newcastle made antique silver salvers was crafted by John Langlands I & John Goodrick in 1755 and the other by George Bulman in 1741; they both bear identical heraldry markings and can be assumed the later piece was crafted to create a matching pair.

* This coat of arms pertains to the Ord family.
