Description

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and Royal Doulton antique match striker has a globular form.

The surface of the ceramic body has a smooth Kingsware* finish and is decorated with a scene featuring Crombie golfers.

The upper portion of this antique match striker retains the original,  hallmarked sterling silver mount encircled with an impressive engraved trellis decorated design.

The underside of the body of the fine match striker bears the Royal Doulton backstamp.*

*Kingsware was developed in the late 1890s. The rich browns on the Kingsware glaze were created by paining the design in coloured slip on the inside of the plater mould. The dark slip was then added to the body. This technique created the lustrious finish of Kingsware.

* *This mark was used to celebrate the grant of the Royal Warrant to Doulton in 1901 by King Edward VII and incorporated the word 'England' until the 1920s.
