This impressive antique Russian silver sugar bowl has an oval rounded form onto a spreading foot.

The surface of the Russian bowl is embellished with an engraved vacant cartouche to either side, each flanked with simplified floral designs.

The upper portion of the body is ornamented with a band of applied moulded decoration to the swept rim.

The bowl is fitted with the original domed hallmarked cover, surmounted with an impressive and original painted wood ball style finial.

This impressive bowl is fitted with a pair of plain shaped silver handles.

The interior of the Russian silver bowl and cover retains the original gilding.

The hallmarks struck to the sugar bowl and cover includes:

Maker's mark: НЕ (untraced)

Assay mark: Д.Т, 1847 (Dimitry Ilyich Tyverskoy/Димитрий Илыич Тверскоий)

Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*)

City Mark: St Petersburg, Russia

* 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver

This antique Russian bowl is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The Russian hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and rim of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
